After a solid E3 2016 trailer during a very underwhelming SEGA stream, Yakuza 0 has been in the dark somewhat. But that has changed with the announcement that the game will be launching just after the new year rolls over on January 24th, 2017. The game is set to be a part of the first wave of new AAA games to launch in 2017 joining Resident Evil 7, which launches the same day.
The Yakuza series has been around for a long time since the days of the PS2 in 2006 and Yakuza 0 will be the 7th game in the series, but from a story perspective, it is a prequel, so anyone who hasn't played a single Yakuza game before won't be lost. The game's protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu is 20 years old and has just gotten himself into the game, while the snakeskin jacket toting Goro Majima is a cabaret owner looking to get back into the Yakuza.
Yakuza 0 is going back to the series' origins to give players an intimate look at the power struggle within the Yakuza, so it will be interesting, to say the least.
