PS4 maintained hardware, software sales lead in February

Ahead of the official unveiling of the NPD Group's February sales report, Sony today announced that PS4 maintained its number-one spot in sales throughout the month.

“We would like to thank our fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top-selling hardware platform and the software sales leader in February, according to NPD,” Sony said in a statement to GameInformer. “We continued to see strong year-over-year sales growth for PS4 hardware and software and are truly humbled by the support and enthusiasm from gamers.”

The NPD’s report comes on the heels of a raft of hypothetical, variably optimistic evaluations of PS4’s performance. Most strikingly, research firm DFC expects the system to become the sixth system to sell 100 million units in its lifetime.

Meanwhile, EA believes PS4 and Xbox One combined have already moved 60 million units. Going off of Sony’s most recent sales report, which put PS4 sales at 35 million as of January 2016, EA’s estimate puts Xbox One sales approximately 12 million units behind PS4.
