PS4 online multiplayer will be free this weekend

No plans for this weekend? Might as well share your Valentine's Day with complete strangers.

This weekend, Sony is giving PlayStation 4 owners a taste of PlayStation Plus by unlocking online multiplayer. From February 13 through February 16, you'll be able to play your multiplayer games online with no restriction.

For PS3, this isn't a big deal. However, PlayStation 4 is the first Sony console to require a PS Plus subscription to play online. So if you own a PS4 and aren't a PS Plus member, this will give you an idea of what you're currently missing out on. Well, online gameplay and a bunch of free games each month.

In addition to playing games online, PS Plus provides members with discounts as well as free games every month. February's free PS Plus offerings indlude Transistor and Apotheon for PS4. Check out the full lineup here. Unfortunately, this weekend's preview is only for online multiplayer, not the free games.

It's important to note that right now, only the European arm of PlayStation has announced the free online multiplayer weekend, although we assume this will be offered in North America as well.
