PS4 outsells Xbox One in U.S. for 8th consecutive month

For the 8th month in a row, Sony's PlayStation 4 is the top-selling console in the United States. While Sony shared news of its latest feat, NPD Group was more focused on the next-gen systems' powers combined.

“In August 2014, overall hardware sales doubled from August 2013 caused by an over 200 percent increase in console hardware sales with continued strong sales of eighth generation hardware (which includes Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One)," NPD Group's Liam Callahan said in the latest report. These next-gen systems represented close to 70 percent of the month's hardware sales, which Callahan explained "is the highest percentage share since the release of the Xbox One and PS4 back in November 2013."

After ten months on the market, combined PS4 and Xbox One hardware sales are over 70 percent greater than those of their predecessors at the same point in their respective launch.

To those of you who say this generation might be the last for traditional consoles, or who doubt that gaming consoles are dying, I challenge you to argue these numbers.
