PS4 Pro heads to Brazil this February for $935 USD / R$2,999

Gaming comes at a steep price.

The PlayStation 4 Pro is finally seeing a release in Brazil and it’s actually cheaper than when the PS4 first launched in Brazil. The PS4 Pro will be priced at 2,999 Brazilian Real (R$), which is roughly $935 USD.

When the PS4 first launched in Brazil, it was priced at R$3,999, which came out to $1,850 USD. At the same time, the Xbox One was priced at R$2,199 (around $1,005 USD at the time).

Back when the PS4 first launched in Brazil, Sony detailed that 63% of the console’s price was due to Brazil’s own import taxes and fees, while another small percentage for the retail markup price. This is the same reason for the $500+ increase in price for the PS4 Pro in Brazil today, except now Brazilians are seeing around a 133% increase in price.

Brazil has experienced their fair share of defeat when it comes to gaming. Nintendo decided to drop Brazil back in 2015 and they have seen high prices for most consoles. One of the few accessible (as far as price goes) consoles in Brazil is the Xbox 360, which was manufactured in Brazil. Because the console was manufactured there, it was subject to fewer taxes.

Hopefully the original PS4 gets a nice price cut in Brazil with the introduction of the PS4 Pro.
