Sony has announced that in celebration of Street Fighter V's launch on PS4, the online multiplayer modes in any PS4 game will be free this weekend and will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Though the PS3 allowed you to play games online free of charge, Sony added a mandatory PS Plus subscription in order to play PS4 games online. This weekend should serve as a nice reminder of how vastly the video game landscape has changed over the years.
Free multiplayer weekend is only slotted for North America, as indicated on the PlayStation blog. PS4 owners can take advantage of the program beginning at 12 AM Pacific time Friday, February 19th and end at 11:59 PM Pacific time Monday February 21st. No word on whether the program will expand outside of North America, but we'll let you know what we hear.
