Some new documents filed through the FCC have revealed the size, weight, and running temperature of the PlayStation 4.
Upon first glance, it's immediately noticeable how much smaller the PS4 is compared to the PS3; but, for those of you who haven't yet seen the system up close, here are a few numbers to give you an idea:
The PS4's size measure 275 x 53 x 305 mm, while weighing around 2.8kg (6.17 lb). That is significantly lighter than the original fat PS3 which was 5kg (11.02 lb) and slightly lighter than the slim PS3 which weighed 3.49kg (7.7 lb).
Even more interesting, the PlayStation 4's operating temperature is listed as being five and 35 degrees Celsius. Again, this is significantly cooler than the current PS3 which is meant to run between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius. If you recall, theĀ PS3 also had a chance of peaking at over 60 degrees which would could result in the infamous Yellow Light of Death.
While not a guarantee, the PS4's lower operating temperature should reduce the chance of a similar issue occurring and turning your brand new console into a shiny paperweight.
