The PlayStation 4 is continuing to struggle in Sony's home country of Japan. For the third consecutive week, PS4 sales have dropped, this time below the 30,000 mark.
According to Media Create, just 29,677 PS4s were sold during the week spanning March 10 through March 16. Though the PS4 got off to a hot start in Japan, selling over 300,000 units at launch, Sony has seen sales for its new system fall rapidly since. This week, however, marks the first time the PS4 hasn't been at the top of the hardware sales charts since its launch. Both the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita outsold it with 34,144 and 29,717 units sold, respectively. Sony's PlayStation 3 managed to sell half the number of units (14,128) and that system is eight years old.
Lifetime sales for the PS4 in Japan currently sit at 439,810 units. Sony's last reported sales figure was over 6 million units worldwide.
