Sony has sold over 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of December 28th. The announcement was made by CEO Andrew House during the company's CES 2014 presentation.
The latest figure is nearly double that of what was announced back in early December, just a few weeks after the PS4's U.S. launch and days after its UK release. It's even more impressive when you take into account that it's not even available in Japan yet. Either way, it appears Sony is well on its way to obtaining its goal of five million consoles sold by the end of the fiscal year in March 2014.
Comparitively, Microsoft has sold over three million Xbox One consoles in 2013. It's worth noting, however, that the PlayStation 4 is available in more than double the markets as the Xbox One.
