The PlayStation 4 has received an update that stealthily patches an exploit and brings the traditional boost in performance. Unfortunately, there's still no official word on the error that came with update 5.0 that has bricked a number of PlayStation 4 consoles.
Here are the official details of the update:
Main features in version 5.01 update
- This system software update improves system performance.
The update itself isn't that big – it's only 357.3 MB – but it does something more than 'improve system performance.' The update has patched a loophole in the PlayStation 4's firmware that allowed exploitive folks to run homebrew. The exploit made an appearance in updates 4.07 and 5.0.
Unfortunately, there's no fix for error code E-801809A8 or the bricked Blu-Rays.
