The next PlayStation 4 firmware update (version 1.70) — the one that will include the ability to turn off HDCP — could release as early as next week, according to an industry insider.
"Plans to announce this week, and release the next," NeoGAF user and industry insider Tidux wrote. "That was all."
Adding some weight to Tidux's post is a Tweet by PlayStation Europe community manager Chris Owen who teased yesterday "Goodness, so much news coming out this week."
Initially talked about last month, the next PS4 system software update will add a number of user-requested features including adding an option to turn off HDCP which will allow you to capture gameplay video via HDMI. It'll also add a "rich video editor" tool that allows you to personalize your video clips, as well as the option to export and save the videos and screenshots you capture to a USB drive.
In addition to the already confirmed features, Tidux said on another GAF thread that PS4 owners could soon see a feature that allows them to sort games; however, he didn't know if this would make it into the 1.70 patch.
