PS4 System Update 4.00 ‘Shingen’ gets detailed; Folders, UI update and more

PlayStation 4 owners rejoice! Folders and Library organization is finally heading to the PS4, along with a number of other new features. System Update 4.00, known as Shingen, will be rolling out to beta users soon and all PS4 owners in a few weeks, so Sony took the time to let us in on what we can expect in the update (so far).

The beta only includes a glimpse of features that will be available in the update once it is officially released to every PlayStation 4. Once update 4.00 releases in the "coming weeks" we will know more about those extra features, but for now, this is what we can look forward to.

UI Refresh

  • The overall look and feel of the UI will stay the same but has been updated. There are new system backgrounds and a revised What’s New tab, as well as updated popup notifications and redesigned system icons.

Quick Menu

  • The menu now only covers a portion of the screen, which won't force you to leave gameplay entirely. New items have been added to the Quick Menu, which will be customizable. You will be able to see the online status of friends, and manage shortcuts to quickly access your Party, Favorite Groups, Communities, and more.

Share Menu

  • Like the Quick Menu, it will not take you out of gameplay to a new screen, instead, it will only cover a portion of the screen.  It will save the last social network you shared video clips or screenshots to, making the process of sharing a screenshot or video a bit faster and more streamlined.
  • You can also upload longer video clips to Twitter (was 10 seconds, now up to 140 seconds).

Folders and Library Organization

  • Ability to create folders on PS4’s content launcher and Library.
  • The Library will get a new tab called 'Purchased', which will show all of the content you own, including games, applications, demos, and betas you’ve participated in. The Games and Applications tabs will show what is currently installed on your system.
  • There are some new sorting tools for your Library as well. You’ll be able to sort content by purchase date or install status, and search for specific games and apps via text input.

Trophy Improvements

  • The ability to view the Trophy offline has been added.
  • Content of a Hidden Trophy will be accessible through a button, but will still be hidden by default.
  • The icons that show how rare a Trophy have been changed from four boxes that fill, to a pyramid with the ultra-rare Trophies at the top.

User Profile

  • Trophy progress compared with another player right from their profile.
  • Add a background image to your own profile (can be a screenshot you took in a game).
