Last week, we were supposed to get the long-awaited PS5 event. Unfortunately, it was delayed in wake of current events in the United States centered around the protests for George Floyd’s death. Despite this tragedy, Sony is moving forward.
The PS5 event will air on June 11th at 1PM PT on Twitch and YouTube. The focus will be primarily on games, mostly launch window games. You can probably expect games like Call of Duty to be there given it has yet to be revealed and Sony has the marketing rights.
“The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware,” said Head of PlayStation, Jim Ryan.
Rumors of Resident Evil 8 have also been bubbling up over the last few weeks, indicating a reveal may be imminent. It would make sense when you recall the fact that Resident Evil 7 was shown at Sony’s E3 conference and had an exclusive demo and VR mode. As for other games, we’re not sure what will be there.
It has been 3 years since Horizon: Zero Dawn, one might imagine a sequel for PS5 would be ready to show. Spider-Man 2 is rumored for Holiday 2021 and God of War 2 has been quiet on all fronts but is definitely coming at some point. There will likely be a big mixture of big sequels but also new IP.
Whatever Sony has in store for the PS5 event, it’ll likely be something you want to see. Before they canceled the event last week, they were airing ads for it on ESPN. They very much want the world to know what’s going on, so be sure to tune in.
The PS5 is slated to release this holiday season.
