PSN down as players experience ‘drops’ due to heavy traffic

New year, same story for PlayStation Network as Sony's online service is reportedly experiencing issues resulting in "drops" for some players.

It doesn't appear to be a complete outage, but rather fluctuations due to "heavy network traffic," according to the official PSN status. Either way, it's an issue for some players who have taken to forums and threads to complain.

Sony's online support, Ask PlayStation, hasn't provided any real details only acknowledging the problem and assuring PlayStation owners that Sony's engineers are "working hard" on a fix.

I experienced a few problems with PSN last night, but was able to play games online, so it doesn't appear to be a massive problem, but it's a problem nonetheless. And it's coming at a time when PlayStation owners are already frustrated due about the lengthy outages last month as a result of Lizard Squad's DDoS attacks.
