PSN down for scheduled maintenance

As you're probably aware by now, PlayStation Network's scheduled maintenance has begun. It actually began at 9:00am PT (12:00pm ET), meaning we've already killed one hour's worth of wait. Sony expects the maintenance to complete around 4:00pm PT (7:00pm ET), but you know them — expect delays.

During the maintenance period, you may receive a message that states "Sony Entertainment Network is undergoing maintenance" when attempting to access the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home. Sony also maintains that if you've signed into PSN within 5 days prior to the start of maintenance, you "may" still be able to pay games online and enjoy partner apps like Hulu and Netflix.

Of course, a quick search on Twitter reveals that PSN is already down for many who are trying to play games online. This is particularly troublesome for Destiny players who are eager to check out today's changes in update 1.0.3. So if you are having problems accessing Destiny or the online portion of any other PlayStation game, you now know why.

Additionally, PS4 users are not able to view the What's New, Live, and Libary areas of the console. Share functionality is also impacted as well.

As for the purpose of this maintenance, Sony previously said it will deploy "a series of back-end improvements to the network" — whatever that means. We'll let you know when maintenance is complete, or if there is any delay.
