PSN down on PS4 and PS3 thanks to more Lizard Squad attacks

Notorious DDoS group has seemingly made good on their promise of an "entertaining weekend," launching a cyber attack tonight on PlayStation Network. Although Sony hasn't confirmed a DDoS on its servers, the company has at least acknowledged what they are calling "intermittent" connection issues.

"We are aware that some network services of PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 are having connectivity issues," Sony says on the PSN support page. "We are currently researching the issue."

The official PlayStation Twitter accound adds:

Meanwhile, over on the dark side of the social media website, Lizard Squad (now known as Lizard Patrol) is claiming credit.

Last week, and even as recent as this weekend, Lizard Squad also claimed credit for taking down Xbox LIVE — promising more DDoS attacks through the holidays.

Given the group's history, which dates back to September, there's no reason to not believe they won't cause more mayhem for gamers and game companies. Earlier this year, the group targeted multiple online games and services including Sony's PlayStation Network, Twitch.tv, League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Destiny. They also DDoS attacked Sony Online Entertainment, even go so far as to report a fake bomb threat on a plane carrying SOE president John Smedley. Although the group was quiet for much of October and November, they did promise they'd return and return they have. I do find it somewhat odd, however, that on the weekend of PlayStation Experience they waited until Sunday to disrupt PSN's service.
