The PlayStation 4 released in Europe today and as some probably expected, PlayStation Network, the system's online service, is buckling under the pressure. Similar to the U.S. launch, users are having trouble connecting to PSN.
Sony currently has the following message posted on their PSN status page: "Due to high volume on PSN, some users may experience network latency. We are aware of the issue and working to resolve it as quickly as possible. We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience."
Meanwhile, PlayStation Europe tweeted the following: "We are aware some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN on PS4 due to the heavy traffic we are receiving, we're investigating."
Prior to the PS4's launch in Europe, Sony had disabled a few features in hopes that it would ease up some of the congestion on its servers. Both the "What's New" and "Content Information Screen" services have been taken offline and will remain offline "for a few days." As was the case with the U.S. launch, I'm sure many of these issues will be solved soon.
