Publisher NIS America today announced Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, a visual novel based on the titular anime coming to PS4 and PS Vita on September 13.
The VN stars new protagonists Nadeshiko Kugatachi, described as “a calm and serious inspector whose memories were wiped away,” and Takuma Tsurugi, “a hot-headed enforcer who is searching for his missing childhood friend.” Nadeshiko and Takuma’s individual storylines will differ greatly, it seems.
Developed by Steins;Gate VN maker MAGES, Mandatory Happiness closely follows the events of the first season of the Psycho-Pass anime, but further fleshes out original author Gen Urobuchi’s cyberpunk world with added backstory and character storylines. Mandatory Happiness is also fully voiced (Japanese with English subtitles) by the original Psycho-Pass cast.
Mandatory Happiness is still “very early in the localization process”, but the game is currently on track to release in the West in September. The game’s $70 limited edition, which includes a 72-page artbook, full soundtrack and miscellaneous collectibles, is now available for pre-order on the NIS store.
