I like that horror games are being more and more inventive. Amnesia: The Dark Descent may not have been the first title to feature a weapon-less protagonist, but it certainly popularized it. Now, even games like P.T. featured inventive gameplay, at least for a demo, that defied horror standards.
The Park seems to be yet another unique horror experience. You play as a single mother, whose son gets lost in a creepy theme park. And when we say creepy, we mean like, "dead bodies hanging, rollercoaster derailing, little child dismembering" creepy.
As you play, Lorraine, the single mother, not only has a continuous shift in her voice that gets more and more terrified as the story goes on, she also has moments of exposition which provide some characterization. For example, we learn that she may not deserve any "Best Mom" awards after leaving her kid sleeping in the car while she ran some errands.
Funcom is generally known for making MMORPGs but this is the studios' first foray into single player territory. According to Funcom, the game is a short yet deep experience.
You can check out the behind-the-scenes trailer for the game above. The Park will be releasing later this month.
