PUBG briefly surpassed Dota 2 in concurrent players becoming the most-played game on Steam

Only for a short period of time, though.

Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is probably the biggest game of 2017 despite only being on PC, not being part of any established IP, and being in early access. The 1 vs 99 multiplayer survival game has continued to capture the lives of more and more players over the last few months and it shows no sign of stopping.

The game has been gaining hundreds of thousands of concurrent players monthly and even weekly, it has surpassed games like Counter-Strike: GO and Grand Theft Auto V making it the second most played game on Steam. Today, it surpassed the game that holds the number one spot, Dota 2.

PUBG was able to have over 875,000 players all at the same time, passing Dota 2 by nearly 50,000 players. Dota 2 is a huge game on Steam that has been played for many years so it's incredibly impressive that PUBG managed to top that. Dota 2 did eventually take its spot back later in the day but it wouldn't be surprising if PUBG beats out Dota 2 by holding the number one spot permanently in the coming weeks.

PUBG is set to release on Xbox One later this fall and will be published by Microsoft. There's no word on if a PlayStation 4 version will come at a later date.
