The nominees for this years Game Awards have been announced, revealing this year's Game of the Year contenders. The contenders are made up of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Persona 5, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
All of the games are full releases, except for one – PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The game is still in Early Access which has caused a small disruption in the gaming community. Can an unfinished game be considered Game of the Year?
Well, it turns out that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds creative director Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene doesn't even want PUBG to win. “Personally, I don’t want to win a Game of the Year award," he told IGN.
“While I would love to win it for the team, I think this year there have been far better games," said Greene. The creative director went on to name The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn as his top picks for the title of Game of the Year.
"They're just wonderful, wonderful games… I think they will probably win it. I would hope they would win it.” Greene said the award “would be a nice feather in their cap” for the PUBG devs, but reiterated “I don't know if we deserve it.”
Now that's a bit of humility.
