PUBG has surpassed 3 million concurrent players on Steam

The biggest release of 2017 just keeps getting bigger and bigger, the PC and Xbox multiplayer shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has broken many records this year including surpassing 1,000,000, 2,000,000, and now 3,000,000 concurrent players on Steam.

Yes, that means 3,000,000 people were actively playing the game at the same time during its peak which is practically unheard of. The previous record holder for most concurrent players was Dota 2 with nearly 1.3 million players, PUBG has doubled that. The game crossed 3,000,000 yesterday and has been boasting impressive numbers on both PC and the Xbox version since it launched earlier this month.

The game has a staggering 26 million players on PC and it only just got out of early access on Steam a couple of weeks ago. The game has over 30 million players across all platforms, meaning Xbox has brought in at least 4 to 5 million players in December 2017 alone.

Just to put in perspective for you, Call of Duty: WWII (which admittedly has a smaller audience on PC) has under 20,000 concurrent players right now and the second highest amount of concurrent players goes to Counter-Strike: Global Offense with 596,000 players at the time of writing. PUBG had more than 5 times that amount of players playing during the peak.

While some are annoyed with the game’s performance on Xbox, that didn’t stopped the game from becoming the fourth most played game on the platform right before Christmas. PUBG has been getting regular updates on an almost weekly basis since launch to help improve performance, iron out bugs, and make the game more accessible and enjoyable.

PUBG is out now on Xbox One and PC.
