PUBG runs at 60fps on PS5 & Series X, Only 30fps on Series S

The PUBG Corporation revealed very welcome news for the next-gen versions of its battle royale shooter. According to the official blog post, users on next-gen consoles will finally experience 60fps gameplay at no additional cost.

But there is a caveat. This is not a dedicated next-gen version of PUBG but instead achieved via backward compatibility. The Xbox Series X takes the Xbox One X version as a base and leverages the sheer power of the new console to achieve 60fps.

Likewise, the PlayStation 5 uses the PS4 Pro version of PUBG to deliver a smooth 60fps experience. You might notice that we only talked about the Xbox Series X. There’s a good reason for that.

Sadly, the Xbox Series S uses the Xbox One S version of PUBG. This means, that the game on Microsoft’s cheaper entry-level next-gen system only runs at 30fps. On one hand, the Series S is a lot cheaper, so it makes sense. But it’s still disappointing for value-oriented console gamers to be stuck at 30fps.

There is still hope though, as the developer is exploring ways to unlock the framerate on the Series X|S. This could possibly open the way for much smoother gaming on even the Series S.

Apart from the impressive jump in performance alone, next-gen user can also look forward to improved load times and general stability. One aspect the current-gen consoles notoriously struggled with.

Since all this is achieved thanks to the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5’s extensive backward compatibility, players can enjoy it right at the consoles’ launch. Just make sure to use the ‘Framerate Priority’ option in the settings.

Last but not least, cross-gen and cross-platform multiplayer is also confirmed. Truly a great time for PUBG players who are enjoying Season 9 and its new dynamic map.
