Whatever new horizon awaits Flippfly in their development endeavours is in the community's power to decide.
The team behind endless runner Race the Sun are seeking help from players to decide on the merits of a future-project-in-the-making. They've taken an experimental approach and created several proof-of-concept experiences for players to vote on, in what they're calling a "Prototype Showdown" where the victor will be developed into a full-fledged game.
Over the next 24 hours or so, players have the ability to test out two prototypes — one where you use lasers to destroy pieces on a chess board, the other built around controlling ants to defend the colony's home — then vote on which of these Round 2 contenders they see more potential in. Round 1's winner, TaxiCopter, won by a large margin against a gravity-based puzzle experience.
This move is in line with a long-term objective to have players be more involved in the team's development process, which will influence both what games they make and how they are made.
