Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is set to bring back the good ole' days of shooters with the classic 4v4 matchups and no respawns. The permadeath setup that Ubisoft has installed brings a new sense of strategy to the game with a focus on teamwork. One thing we haven't heard much of so far is the types of maps we will be able to play on.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, the level designer Benoit Deschamps indicated that although more maps will be released post launch, Rainbow Six Siege will release with a respectable 10 maps. Although not too many, it is enough to keep you held over until the new DLC maps come out even with the potential of matches ending quickly with only four players and no respawns.
“As for now yes, there are ten maps, but we have more planned because we’re already working on more content for players after launch."
Initially that might not sound like a huge number, but it's not your typical shooter. Rainbow Six was never meant to be Call of Duty or even Battlefield for that matter and Siege, although a shooter, is the polar opposite setup. The entire emphasis of Siege is teamwork and strategy, not K/D like other shooters so 10 maps is just enough to allow you to keep your strategies planned while not overwhelming the player with options.
