After several plans for sequels and TV shows failed, Nu Image and Millennium Films have gone ahead and decided to reboot Rambo entirely. The ultra violent series is about a troubled army vet by the name of John Rambo who is a killing machine and will destroy anyone who pushes him over the edge. The series showed Rambo returning from war to a changed America and fighting cruel cops, his time in the war, and a fourth film decades later giving us a glimpse at a retired Rambo living in Burma called into action one last time. The series was Sylvester Stallone's next big role after the first two Rocky films.
While we don't have any plot details, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the series is being rebooted without Stallone in the iconic role. The film will most likely replace him with some young, up and coming talent but there's no word on who the studio is eyeing to fill the shoes of the legendary solider. The reboot will be titled 'Rambo: New Blood' probably a reference to the first film's title, First Blood. Stallone wanted to do a fifth and final film titled 'Rambo: Last Blood' to send the character of Rambo off, but the film never got off the ground.
The Hollywood Reporter also mentions Nu Image looks at "Rambo as a character akin to James Bond." They could possibly be alluding to the fact that the character is expendable and can be replaced at anytime and John Rambo isn't much of a person, rather a code name or persona.
The only other details given is that the film has director and a writer. Brooks McLaren (How It Ends, Line of Sight) is being tasked to write the film while Ariel Vromen (The Iceman, Criminal) will be directing our new John Rambo. The film has no set release window, but I am sure we will here more in the coming months.
