Rare calls Sea of Thieves “the best thing we’ve ever done,” hints at expanding its scope

Sea of Thieves is one of the Xbox One's most anticipated games and for a good reason. In a year when the console is lacking AAA exclusives, especially when compared to the competition, a game of this caliber created by a studio of Rare's reputation with only enhance the hype behind it. In speaking with Metro GameCentral, it sounds like the developers are just as excited for the world to get their hands on the game as the players are.

Executive Producer Joe Neate said:

"It’s been the best thing we’ve ever done. [laughs] I’ve been in this industry 18 years and it is the best opportunity that I’ve ever had. And the game that I’ve believed in most strongly. This game and where we can take it, the scope that we can add for this game – the different things to do, the different ways to play, the different stories the players are gonna have – it’s mind-blowing."

What's exciting about Neate's remarks is not only his enthusiasm but the "scope that we can add" comment he threw in there. What this says is that Rare is committed to developing Sea of Thieves over the long haul, which is a sentiment that Xbox Boss, Phil Spencer has echoed.

The "shared world adventure" as Rare calls it, boasts a vast open world that players can expect to see another ship "two or three times an hour," a fixture that has been tweaked thanks to the Alpha Play Testing according to Rare.

Sea of Thieves does not currently have a release date, but it is expected to launch sometime in 2018.
