On May 1st, former Rare developers took to Kickstarter as Playtonic Games to seek funding for their spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee. That game blew up on Kickstarter, getting funded within an hour and hitting the stretch goals within two days of launching.
Rare, the studio that had once housed the developers at Playtonic, is working on a project of their own. A NeoGaf user spotted a conversation between a Twitter user and Studio Creative Director at Rare, Simon Woodroffe. The conversation suggests that Gregg Mayles, a designer at Rare, will be revealing a new game from the studio during E3.
Gregg Mayles has worked on the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Viva Pinata. So, Mayles has worked on a 2D platformer, a 3D platformer and a simulation game that is somewhere in between Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing and The Sims. He has covered so much ground in the video game industry, it's hard to take a guess at what he is working on. The developers at Playtonic got a chance to see the game before they left to create Yooka-Laylee, and that's about as much as we know.
