Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart gets new PS5 gameplay demo

Earlier this summer, we got a first-look at the line-up for the PS5. Perhaps one of the most impressive titles features was Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The game looks to make full use of the hardware with the ability to jump between worlds on the fly, removing loading screens.

We get to see plenty of that in the full gameplay demo shown at Gamescom 2020. The Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart demo is an extension of what they showed us at the PS5 event but really showcases the technical prowess of the game.

Something you can’t gather from watching the demo is how it feels in your hands. The PlayStation 5 DualSense controller is fitted with all sorts of new tech to immerse you into the game. Various weaponry use the haptic feedback within the controller, allowing for you to feel the power of these weapons.

“Thanks to the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the DualSense wireless controller, we are able to make each weapon in Ratchet’s out-of-this-world arsenal feel unique and more powerful than ever. Take the Enforcer for example. This double barrel shotgun has multiple fire modes. Pull the trigger halfway and it fires a single shot. Squeeze passed the first stage and you will unload a double barrel blast instead!  And with the 3D audio, you will be fully immersed – hearing everything above, below and surrounding you,” reads a post on PS Blog.

It was also revealed that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a “launch window” game for PlayStation 5. While this is a vauge term, we imagine this means it’ll launch within the first  3 – 6 months of the console. It may slot itself into Infamous: Second Son’s window, which released in March 2014, 5 months after the launch of PS4.

PlayStation 5 is slated to release this holiday season with games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and more. If you’re eager to get your hands on the console, you can register now to get first dibs on the PS5.
