The old PC role-playing game Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny returns this month as a "one-to-one remake" of the original, which released internationally in 1993.
Austrian developer Crafty Studios is reinventing the game for modern audiences and releasing it on Steam on July 30 for PC and Mac. It will cost $16 at launch ($20 regular).
Realms of Arkania is an old-school dungeon crawler based in the world of tabletop game Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye), which has outsold Dungeons & Dragons in Germany for years. With a party, players explored 3D dungeons from a first-person perspective and then engaged in tactical battles in an isometric view.
The original spawned two sequels and allowed players to import their characters. The remake boasts 20-80 hours of play time and improved 3D. This marks the 20-year anniversary of the title.
