If for whatever reason you’re not one of the 30 million+ people who own Red Dead Redemption 2, we have news for you. Red Dead Online is splintering off into a standalone game in just a few weeks.
The new standalone Red Dead Online mode will cost $4.99 starting on December 1st, 75% off its normal price. On February 15th, 2021 it will revert to its normal, full price. Players will also have the option to upgrade the standalone Red Dead Online to gain Red Dead Redemption 2’s story. The standalone version will be playable on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. If you have an Xbox Series X/S or PS5, it can be played via backwards compatibility.
While it comes at a cheap price, it will eat up over 120GBs on your hard drive so make some room for it! Red Dead Online won’t be getting any unique new features for the standalone version but we imagine this may help pave the way for some bigger content going forward. It wouldn’t make sense to split it off if Rockstar doesn’t have any exciting plans for it but that’s purely speculative.
GTA Online will also be taking advantage of a standalone version in 2021 on PS5. The game will be free to PS+ users for the first three months. It’s unclear if the standalone version will come to other platforms but a proper enhanced version of GTA V is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X next year. This will be a great way to experience the new heist and map expansion coming to the game in December.
