There’s no denying that it’s a little difficult getting behind the Nintendo 3DS launch window. With only a few solid releases in store for the handheld, it doesn’t appear to be one of Nintendo’s stronger console launches. In an interview with MTV Mulltiplayer, the president of Nintendo defended the lineup of games scheduled to launch within the coming months.
In terms of key Nintendo franchises like Mario and Zelda, Fils-Aime stated that “they’ll be ready soon, but just not in that initial time period of late March through early June.” He also stated that information on games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Mario Kart, and Kid Icarus would be revealed at this year’s E3.
Super Street Fighter IV, Dead or Alive: Dimensions, Madden, Steel Diver, Nintendogs + Cats, and Pilotwings Resort are all titles that Fils-Aime said would appeal to the hardcore audience. He went on to say that from a third-party perspective, the 3DS lineup is “probably the best we’ve ever had for the launch of a new system.”
It’s tough to agree with Fils-Aime considering the lack of first-party titles set for launch as well as the lackluster ports and third-party shovelware. Looks like we’ll have to wait for E3 to get some juicy details on Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS games.
