Release date for Fallout: New Vegas mod Fallout: New California announced

A great new reason to return to the wasteland

The team behind the total-conversion mod Fallout: New California for Fallout: New Vegas has announced that their mod will come out on October 23rd this year. They also released a new trailer showing a lot of new locations and story beats, setting up the atmosphere.

Fallout: New California is a major undertaking and promises tremendous amounts of content with new locations, over 16,000 lines of voiced dialogue and a story campaign with 12 possible endings. As the name implies, the mod will take place in California and feature a new player character from Vault 18. The story will take place prior to the events of Fallout: New Vegas and will be a prequel of sorts.

While the modding team RadianHelixMedia has stated in their announcement that the main campaign is already finished, they decided to spend some extra months adding side quests worthy of what is looking to be one of the most massive projects in the Fallout modding scene:

“That said, the mod is now art locked! We have a our BSA files set, the story works, bugs are minimal… ….so why October and not now? Because something is missing — and all the testing guys noticed — is side quests. Again, not the end of the world, but you hit this story with huge replete branches 16,000 lines of dialogue long you expect some little moments with characters off to the side of the big arcs, and there just aren’t any. Again, because there was no one to code it! I’d also like to take time to revise some plot holes and gaps in the open possibilities that appeared in testing.”

Fallout: New California started out as Project Brazil over five years ago and has steadily made progress throughout the years, including finalizing a name in 2017. Total conversion mods are not uncommon undertakings in the modding scene. Especially for popular titles like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Even so, many of these projects fail to see the light of day due to their nature of sheer scope. So it’s great to see Fallout: New California shaping up to be one of the few that could.

Beta sign ups will start in July, so make sure to follow the mod on ModDB.
