Report: 2K Sports to not renew MLB license

According to a recent 2K financial report, MLB 2K12 expects to lose money for 2K and Take-Two Interactive – losses lessening "by 50 percent." The report, which outlines the company's upcoming titles, also failed to mention 2K13, which has many to believe that 2K and Take-Two will not be renewing their MLB incense.

In addition to the company's report, a Take-Two spokesman, speaking to Kotaku, stated, "Our legacy Major League Baseball agreement will sunset in fiscal 2013. MLB 2K12 is our last offering under that agreement. At this time, we have no further comment." As most are aware, the MLB 2K series is the only baseball franchise for Microsoft and Xbox 360. A failed renewal will make for an awkward situation, unless you're Sony, who currently holds the juggernaut of MLB games at their finger tips: MLB The Show.

To add salt to Take-Two's wound, 2K's last two series that failed to show up on the company's yearly financial report were shut down permanently: 2K Sports' NHL and college basketball series. While it's no secret that 2K's series was a less than stellar approach to MLB baseball, it's definitely a surprise that they're shutting down the entire franchise, especially when their NBA franchise is the only other game on their resumes.
