Report: PlayStation VR to outsell combined sales of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in the UK

Data tracking website GfK is reporting that PlayStation VR is on track to outsell the combined sales of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in the UK. The report mentions that the first ever console headset is a much cheaper and accessible option compared to the other two competitors which are significantly more expensive even without taking the cost of a computer into account.

The headset released last month and has been positively reviewed by both fans and critics alike. It's also promising that dozens of developers are supporting it with both premium and free content for many titles. The report also mentions how some of the retail released games for PSVR are making their way onto the top 40 games charts over in the UK.

“Early UK sales of PlayStation VR indicate it is already approaching the combined installed base of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Initial PlayStation VR game sales are also positive with eight or nine boxed releases featuring in the Official UK Top 40 games chart (week ending Saturday 15th October 2016).”

The report is also attributing word of mouth to the astounding sales noting fans being surprised with the technology.

“Early adopters weren’t certain what to expect from a VR gaming experience. The Sony PlayStation branding eradicated many concerns and led to high expectations. Our survey shows that initial reactions from owners of PlayStation VR are positive. Some told us that the experience surpasses expectations, and for many it is a talking point with their friends. Others believe the VR gaming experience to be a solitary one, but have been pleasantly surprised by social elements of VR gaming.”

It should be taken into account that GfK doesn't have the stats of sales from Oculus's and Vive's official websites.
