It sounds like Nintendo Switch owners can look forward to a rather quirky crossover RPG later this year as Kotaku has confirmed that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle not only exists but is due for a release in either August or September of this year. This likely means we can expect a loaded reveal during Nintendo's E3 presentation with this game as one of its headliners.
Kotaku was provided with a collection of art assets, which they were requested not to share. They were able to clean three major details regarding the game from said assets which are a turn-based combat system, two-player local co-op, and a humorous tone to its narrative. In addition, there will be eight playable characters, Mario, Luigi, Yoshii, Peach and four Rabbids disguised as the Nintendo quartet. This sounds an awful lot like previous Mario RPGs, and considering the oddball nature of the Rabbids, the crossover makes more sense than at first glance.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is being developed by Ubisoft using the company's Snowdrop engine, which was used to power Tom Clancy's The Division and South Park: The Fractured But Whole.
Expect more details on Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle during E3 2017.
