Resident Evil 2 gets Story Trailer, First Look at Ada Wong

Capcom has released a brand-new story trailer for the highly anticipated remake of Resident Evil 2. As the title suggests, we get to see a variety of new locations, a general overview about the story and plenty of scenes showing old characters in their new designs. Of special interest is the very first look at Ada Wong, the highly stylish and mysterious spy a.k.a. assassin.

Don’t be fooled though, this new trailer is a great teaser for when Resident Evil 2 arrives January 25th, 2019. Pretty much 4 months left until gamers get their hands on the long-awaited remake to one of the arguably most important survival-horror games of all time.

One thing, that sticks out once again in this trailer, is how developer Capcom is toning down the over-the-top and sometimes totally unfitting character design, in favor of more believable and dark themes. No longer is Ada the super sexual secretive character she turned into throughout the franchise’s long life. No more audacious apparel one would expect on a catwalk instead during a zombie outbreak.

Instead, we are witnessing an intimidatingly dark re-imagining of a Raccoon City at the cusp of a zombie apocalypse. Dim-lit dark corridors, rain-soaked empty streets and the crushing unease of nightmarish terrors looming just around the next corner are sure to make this trip down memory lane a special one.

But hey, there’s still plenty of time and ways Capcom can play off the original by offering alternative and “authentic” wardrobe options come January. We wouldn’t mind it either.

Besides Ada Wong, the story trailer also shows our second protagonist Claire Redfield in greater detail and – albeit little – gameplay. The original always stood out by incentivising multiple playthroughs with the two heroes, so it’ll be interesting to see in what capacity Capcom has decided to redesign the narrative progression.
