Resident Evil 7 ESRB rating details combat, protagonist; Doesn’t mention zombies

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has officially released the rating for Resident Evil 7. After our initial look at Resident Evil 7 during E3 2016, fans grew concerned that it would be spooky ghost game and not a traditional Resident Evil game.

Capcom quickly dispelled these rumors, but the ESRB rating has given us even more details.

The game's summary on the ESRB rating tells us more about the game than Capcom has shown thus far. Up until this point, we haven't heard much on who the main character is or the extent of the combat in the game. We have seen trailers and demos, but we they have been more of running away and exploring simulators.

The ESRB rating summary for Resident Evil 7 details that our main protagonist is named Ethan and we will be looking for his wife in a dilapidated mansion. The game will feature plenty of gore, which is pretty normal for a Resident Evil game, as is a bit of cursing in the dialogue.

According to the ESRB rating, we will be using shotguns, pistols. flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. It's interesting that the rating doesn't include any mention of zombies, only 'mutant creatures.'

The ESRB rating for Resident Evil 6, 1, 0, Revelations all mention zombies, Resident Evil 4 and 5, however, don't – they details mutant creatures. In Resident Evil 4 and 5 we deal with parasite controlled people that were kind of like zombies, but not.

They were not-zombie zombies. It looks like Resident Evil 7 may feature the same.
