Resident Evil 8 announced for PS5; Coming in 2021

Trading zombies for witches and werewolves.

After a successful soft reboot of the series in 2017, Resident Evil 8 is coming (Resident Evil: Village) in 2021 and will build off the story of 7. In Resident Evil: Village, players will return as Ethan Winters after the birth of his child still in first-person.

He’s, as the title implies, in a village taking us back to the days of Resident Evil 4. Except, this time there are no zombies. There are witches, villagers, and even some werewolves. Even Chris Redfield looks to be a potential antagonist and Capcom has teased that when Redfield makes an appearance at the home of the Winter’s family, it sets off a chain of events that leads Ethan to this village in search of answers.

“Finally able to move on from those horrifying events, Ethan’s world suddenly comes crashing down once again when Chris Redfield, an unexpected yet familiar face makes an appearance, setting off a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan seeking answers to Chris’s shocking actions… and ultimately finding him in a mysterious village.”

Capcom has spoken about how the game is using its themes of fight or flight as the driving force of Resident Evil 8. Instead of being set in a house, you’re in a much larger unknown environment filled with great mysteries including ancient myths and fables.

“The return of a first-person perspective will bring a visceral edge to combat, as well. Each encounter is a personal fight for survival against terrifying foes, forcing you to keep a watchful eye on the environment and constantly looking for resources and enemies in unknown territory. With a greater focus on combat and exploration compared to Resident Evil 7, the village itself is just as important a character as any other, a location with a life of its own that will frequently keep you on edge as you discover its secrets.”

Resident Evil: Village will release on PS5 (and likely other consoles) in 2021.
