I guess Capcom fans aren't quite sick of the constant remakes and re-releases of Resident Evil — as evidenced by the sales success of the latest release of the original Resident Evil game.
Capcom announced today that Resident Evil HD Remaster, an HD remastering of 2002's Resident Evil (which, in turn, was a "REmake" of the 1996 version of the original Resident Evil for PlayStation), has become Capcom's fastest selling digital title in history across North America and Europe. Launched last month, it has also broken the record for the biggest selling day-one digital title on the PlayStation Network.
“It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have enjoyed this new release. The team here at Capcom Japan have worked hard to bring the game to the latest generation of consoles and we are thrilled at this news on its performance," said Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabyashi.
Not only does Resident Evil HD Remaster allow fans to revisit the mysterious mansion that sparked an entire franchise, but it has been enhanced for HD game platforms with improved resolutions and textures. What’s really neat is that you can choose to play between the classic 4:3 aspect ratio or bump it to the more modern 16:9 widescreen. There’s also the option to play with the classic control scheme of the original game or play with an alternative setup where the character moves directly in the direction of the analogue stick.
As we wrote in our review: "If you like being drowned in nostalgia in a very well done rendition of one of your favorite childhood games which doesn’t ruin the experience, Resident Evil HD Remaster is for you."
