Capcom and Netflix have unveiled a brand-new CG TV series set in the popular zombie series of Resident Evil. Slated to arrive in 2021 on the popular streaming service, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will feature two of the most popular characters in the long-standing franchise. Here’s the teaser trailer for you to enjoy!
The Resident Evil franchise is no stranger to cross-media adaptations. Heck, the movie franchise alone is closing in fast on number of titles alone compared to the video game inspiration.
But while there was plenty of stand-alone movies of various types to enjoy for Resident Evil fans, there never has been a TV series. This is soon going to change when Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness comes to global audiences sometime in 2021.
In the teaser art, we see Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield against the backdrop of a blood-splattered wall, silently waiting to take on a new threat after cheating death time and time again. Revealed simultaneously, the teaser trailer depicts scenes of courage as Claire enters an abandoned building enveloped by the dark night as she happens to find “something” while Leon saves “someone” in the darkness. You can see every tiny speck of floating dust and the tension of the characters’ expressions in these ultra-realistic, high-quality visuals which ramp up the intensity from the very start! Plug in a pair of headphones to double the terror in this teaser that will surely stir up expectations for this series!
While the offcial announcement of the two companies state the series as “anime”, it’s hardly going to be comparable to the traditional cartoons that are coming from Japan. Being created entirely in CG, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness has more similarities to prior CG movies or even in-game cutscenes more than anything.
The Netflix show is being produced by TMS Entertainment who’s known for the Detective Conan and Lupin animes shows with the CG being handled by Quebico. With the credits of 2017’s Resident Evil Vendetta CG movie under their belt, the studio has a solid foundation already.
There are no details about the number of episodes the show will have but we already know that it will focus on Clair Redfield and Leon Kennedy. The two protagonists of Resident Evil 2. But while the setting is still a mystery, the teaser trailer doesn’t give the impression that it will be simply a retelling of known stories and instead something new.
