Resident Evil Village shows unsettling horror in new trailer

Capcom has shared a new trailer of the action-horror Resident Evil Village. Shown during the PlayStation 5 Showcase event, the new trailer sets up a very different but awesome tone for the next chapter of the iconic survival-horror series. Check out the trailer below!

The Resident Evil franchise is back in high form after experiencing a shaky period last-gen. The over-the-top action-oriented Resident Evil 6 almost killed the franchise by leaving almost everything behind that made the series so popular to begin with.

2017’s Resident Evil 7 brought back the major focus on horror and survival. It was a huge success Resident Evil Village looks to trump even that. As the title already implies, a mysterious and creepy village is the center point of attention in the newest RE game.

We’re immediately harkened back to the legendary Resident Evil 4 which also featured a similar setting. While there will be action in RE 8, it doesn’t look like it will focus on action as much as the fourth game however.

While the village itself may look pristine from all the freshly fallen snow, disturbing events are happening just out of sight. Flickering movements catch the corners of Ethan’s eyes, while strange shapes loom on the horizon. It’s among the dilapidated sheds and houses that he may find his answers… or he may find something far more sinister.

But that’s good thing actually. By keeping the first-person viewpoint from RE7, Resident Evil Village continues the winning formula of immersive and almost oppressive horror. One thing fans of the series always wanted to be more prominent.

Once again, Ethan Winters is the protagonist who ends up in a creepy European village after encountering Chris Redfield. Unraveling the dark mysteries and motives is part of the experience, that’s why the trailer leaves you with more questions than it answers. But one thing is for sure, this Eurotrip for Ethan won’t be that pleasant.

Resident Evil Village is set to come out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series in 2021.
