Resistance: Burning Skies multiplayer detailed

Resistance: Burning Skies is a little over a month away from its May 29th release for the PlayStation Vita, but developer Nihilistic Software has decided to share some details about its multiplayer gameplay.

In addition to its all-new single player campaign, Resistance: Burning Skies will offer online multiplayer via Wi-Fi.

"When designing Resistance: Burning Skies, our goal was to bring a high-quality console experience to a handheld, and thanks to the power of the Vita, we’ve ended up with an unprecedented mobile FPS," explained designer Reed Monroe.

It will offer up to eight player gameplay in the form of 2 vs 2 all the way to 4 vs 4.  Players can choose between Quick Match, a fast way to play by joining an automatic matchmaking session, or Party with Friends, using the Vita's cross-game Party app to join private matches with friends and take advantage of party voice chat.

Killing enemies and winning matches will earn XP to help you Rank Up. As you Rank Up you will unlock weapons and upgrades from the story campaign.

Using these upgrades you can modify and customize your weapons.  These will not only give you a weapon best suited for your playstyle, but one that has a distinctive visual look.  It's important to note that if you're killed, enemies can pick up your upgraded weapons and use them against you.

PlayStation VIta's location-based service, NEAR, will introduce a new social perk awarding players valuable XP multipliers to carry into multiplayer gameplay.

Monroe named two of the three game modes – Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.  A "very unique" third mode will be revealed next week.  There will be six playable maps, taking you from the streets of Staten Island to the docks of Bayonne, NJ.

Resistance: Burning Skies will be available in North America on May 29th for $39.99.  It will be found in most major retails or available on PSN.
