Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition announced for PC & PS4

Sega is on a roll of releasing remasters for quite a few of their most beloved games. Resonance of Fate, a stylish JRPG is now part of the Japanese publisher’s newest efforts into making their classic titles available to a new audience.

Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition is – as the name very much implies – a remaster for the current generation of gaming platforms. That is, the PS4 and PC. Xbox One and Switch users are out of luck. While having not announced a decisive release date, the Resonance of Fate remaster will come out next month according to the game’s website. So, we’re expecting Sega to announce the final date soon.

Taking place in an offbeat far future, where earth came close to destruction, mankind build a huge towering structure, Basel. This giant machination originally served to normalize the poisonous atmosphere but after a long time, became home for the remaining humans. In order to bring back balance to the world, Basel not only controls environmental aspects like acidity etc. but also the very fate of each human.

It’s this starting point, where the player takes control of the three – surprisingly well styled for the end of the world – protagonists and tries to regain their own fates. Pretty grim sounding but hey, it’s a Japanese niche game, so the usual quirky character customization and weird NPCs are still here to lighten the mood. After all, Resonance of Fate brought us video game cinematic gems like this.

Originally released for last-gen consoles exclusively, Resonance of Fate had a tough time breaking out of the niche JRPG corner. A rather strange post-apocalyptic setting, hardcore tactical gameplay centered around an unusual spotlight on pistols and machine guns, was just too unique to reach a wider gaming audience. Thus, the game remained a hidden gem for genre fans.

Things have changed dramatically since Resonance of Fate landed on the PS3 and Xbox 360 eight years ago however, with the astronomical rise of indie games and mainstream success of weird Japanese games like Nier: Automata, Resonance of Fate 4k/HD Edition gets the second chance it deserves.
