Respawn introduces ‘The Black Market’ to Titanfall, but promises no microtransactions

Developer Respawn Entertainment is adding in-game currency to Titanfall through something called the "The Black Market," the "seedy underbelly of the Frontier" where you can go to buy Titan Insignias and additional Burn Cards.

"The Black Market collects and sells the Frontier’s most sordid items like packs of random Burn Cards and Titan Insignias. Don’t ask where we got them. You don’t want to know," Respawn joked.

Among the items sold in the Black Market are a set of Titan Insignias that are themed as the official insignias of elite units on both the IMC and Militia. Once unlocked in the Black Market, they'll be available to you in the Titan Custom Loadout screens.

The Black Market will also sell Burn Card Packs which contain random Burn Cards each focused on a specific theme. "The primary goal of Burn Card packs is to give you more choice in the kinds of Burn Cards you get and to fit different play styles. The Cards you get are random, but you get a set of Cards you know you will enjoy using," Respawn explained.

Respawn was sure to point out that the launch of The Black Market does not mean they'll be adding microtransactions to Titanfall.

"With the introduction of an in-game currency, some may worry that the next step is that we will let players spend real-world money to get an edge in the game. We have stated several times that Titanfall will not have micro-transactions. Fear not, for we plan to keep that promise – NO MICROTRANSACTIONS! The only way to get Credits is by playing the game!" Respawn assured.

You can earn credits in a number of ways including: match victory, match completion, first victory of the day, completing daily challenges, and selling Burn Cards. Also, at level 50, a percentage of XP you earn will be converted into Credits.

The Black Market is available at level 11 once you've opened the Burn Cards menu.
