Thierry Henry, a retired French soccer player, is a playable character in NBA 2K17 as announced by 2K today. Let's break this down, shall we?
First, it's either soccer or football depending on where you're from. Since I'm currently sitting in the U.S. while writing this, I'll go with soccer. Everyone not in the U.S. feel free to reach through your PC and grab me. In fact, I picture it something like this, right?
On a serious note, this is a very interesting choice and I'm curious to know what our readers who are soccer….err….football fans, have to say about it. According to 2K, Thierry Henry will be a regular court side star during home games of the San Antonio Spurs, just as in real life.
In NBA 2K17’s Blacktop mode, where you can play different types of basketball games ranging from 1 vs 1 to 5 vs 5, Thierry Henry is available as a playable character, where you can test his skills against the greatest players of all time.
“Being a basketball and NBA fan since I was a kid, I'm honoured to be the first football player ever to be playable in NBA 2K17", said Thierry Henry. "Seeing myself go toe to toe with the legends of the sport is an amazing feeling."
Two of my colleagues here at Gamezone are huge soccer….damn, did it again…uh football fans and their reaction was basically just "Wait, what? Really? Like, why?" Check out some screen shots of Thierry Henry in action below and let us know what you think.
For those who may not be familiar with him, he is a very accomplished player. He played for Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona, New York Red Bulls and spent eight years at Arsenal where he is the club's all-time record goalscorer. He is also the all-time goalscorer for the French National Team and won the World Cup in 1998.
