Review Roundup: Moving Call of Duty from space to WWII was the right move

The latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise has released, bringing the Call of Duty series back to World War II. Reviews for the game have begun to trickle out and it looks like Activision and Sledgehammer have succeeded in bringing Call of Duty back to earth – literally.

The move from futuristic space-filled gameplay to World War II has proved successful. As per usual, the campaign is the weakest part of the game – but it's "filler-free" and enjoyable. The multiplayer, the iconic part of the franchise, is being hailed as the best part of the game and even the new features are being enjoyed.

Things are looking pretty good for the game.

Metacritic is currently sitting at 86/100 and OpenCritic at 85/100 (at the time of writing). Call of Duty: WWII is set to release today, bringing free in-game items to anyone who plays the game before November 17th, 2017. Check out some reviews from around the web below:

World War II was the right move. Call of Duty reaches back to its roots to bring players an entry worthy of the series’ namesake. The campaign is emotional, multiplayer is classic, and Nazi Zombies is downright dark and terrifying. No matter which kind of player you are, there is something for everyone, whether it’s a cinematic story, a competitive and social multiplayer, or an immensely difficult battle against undead Nazis. Call of Duty: WWII is another incredible package of experiences, each distinct from the others, but tied together by the unifying themes of World War II that deserve your attention.
