Review Roundup: Xbox One X is the best place to play multiplatform games

We have been hearing about Microsoft's beefed up Xbox One, the Xbox One X for a while now. Before the console even had its official name and was called Project Scorpio, we knew one single fact about the console – it would be powerful.

With the Xbox One X's release coming on November 7th, Microsoft has allowed media outlets the opportunity to review the console. According to reviews, the Xbox One X is as it says, powerful. Its power makes it the best console to play multiplatform games on, but its main drawback is the same problem that Xbox has been facing since the release of the Xbox One – the lack of exclusives.

Overall, the gaming experience is smooth – there are no frame rate drops – and games are looking amazing in 4K.

Check out the review below:

IGN

“It’s hard to believe Microsoft exclusives like Gears of War 4 can look so good and run so smoothly on a box that costs less than half of what you’d pay for a high-end gaming PC.”

Digital Foundry

“Running at a perfect 60 [fps] – and there’s a lot going on here. It just doesn’t buckle at all.”

VG247

"Make no mistake – if you pick this machine up you’ll immediately feel the difference and the benefits, even on a 1080p display. With that said, this upgrade still also feels like a mere stepping stone to bigger, better things next generation. Still, Microsoft can rest assured they’ve built a brilliant technical marvel and one of the best mid-generation console upgrades ever."

Destructoid

“I’m still going to be gaming plenty on PS4 for exclusives, but in the meantime I’ll probably opt for the X versions of multiplatform games.”

Dualshockers

“If you’re a multi-platform gamer and the type of consumer who doesn’t mind paying extra for a premium experience … the Xbox One X gets a ‘Buy’ recommendation from us.”

Engadget

“The Xbox One X offers some major performance upgrades that gamers will notice … It’s exactly what the company promised: the fastest game console ever made.”

Gamespot

“If you game on a 1080p TV and don't have any plans to upgrade to a 4K one, the Xbox One S is going to be a better fit for you. While you will get some graphical enhancements with the X, you don't really get your money's worth if you don't have a 4K HDR TV. But what if you already own a 4K HDR TV and an Xbox One? In this case, I'd only recommend getting the X if you have the disposable cash to spare for the increased visual fidelity and performance benefits. If you have a 4K HDR TV, don't have a current gen console, and are looking to purchase one, however, the Xbox One X is a great choice."

Polygon

“Undeniably the best console to play multiplatform games… but with the limited number of enhanced Xbox One X titles I’ve been able to test, I haven’t seen enough to be able to recommend the console in light of its high price.”

Ars Technica

“Buy it if you’re itching for select Xbox One games in 4K. Otherwise, look to cheaper console competition or a more versatile gaming PC.”

PC Gamer

“Microsoft’s renewed attention to the PC means you really don’t need an Xbox to play most games … If you want a 4K Blu-Ray player, the Xbox is a great buy (though I think I’d go for the more affordable Xbox One S).”

USGamer

"The Xbox One X is a pretty niche offering. It's nice that it exists, but it's hard to recommend"

Mashable

"It's an Xbox One, but better. I'm not going to compare specs and crown a "winner." Sony's machine is fine, and I think Xbox One X is also fine. You get the most from either one if you have a 4K HDR display, but both also deliver faster load times and slightly better graphics regardless of your TV, for less than the cost of a proper gaming PC."
