Rick Moranis turned down cameo in Ghostbusters reboot

A number of familiar faces will be returning as cameos in Paul Feig's upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. But one original act we won't be seeing in the film is Rick Moranis, who played accountant Louis Tully (better known as the Keymaster, harbinger of Gozer the Destroyer) in the original two movies.

Opening up to the Hollywood Reporter about his decision, Moranis wished the cast of the new film well, adding "I hope it's terrific."

Unfortunately, the 62-year-old comedic legend turned down his opportunity for a cameo in the film. "It just makes no sense to me," he said. "Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?"

Moranis hasn't exactly retired from acting, but his projects have been far and few between since the passing of his wife, Ann, in 1997. "I took a break, which turned into a longer break," he clarified to THR. "But I'm interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I'll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn't appeal to me."

While Moranis won't appear in the new Ghostbusters, many of his fellow cast members from the original will, including Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, and Ernie Hudson. Although reaction to the new Ghostbusters has been mixed, it's nice to see it supported by many of the original films' leading members. It's unfortunate that Moranis won't be part of it, but he seems content with his decisions.

"It's hard to come up with original material," he added. "Occasionally, they get it right or else they wouldn't attempt to do these things. I'm surprised that Disney hasn't done Honey, I Shrunk the Grandkids. But I'm happy with the things I said yes to, and I'm very happy with the many things I've said no to. Yes, I am picky, and I'll continue to be picky. Picky has worked for me."

Personally, I'd like to see him return in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
