Ridley Scott wants Alien: Covenant to be his scariest one yet

Shortly after winning a Golden Globe for hit movie The Martian, director Ridley Scott  took some questions backstage, commenting on his upcoming movie, Alien: Covenant. There's a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming film, which is a sequel to the Prometheus (which is a prequel to the Alien franchise), but not much is actually known specifically about the movie.

Commenting on his goals for the movie, Scott said:

“I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien],” Scott recalls. “I couldn’t sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was… I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I’m going to try and do that again this year, but much worse.”

(You can watch the full backstage interview in the video above.)

It seems that Ridley Scott wants to top his scariest moments in the Alien franchise with Alien: Covenant. The Alien franchise is not scared of the "R" rating. In fact, every Alien movie besides Alien vs. Predator was rated "R". But it seems like Ridley Scott wants to take it one step further. Alien: Covenant is part of the prequel trilogy that started with Prometheus; the sequel — Alien: Covenant, is set to start production in Australia.

Details on what Covenant is about has yet to be revealed, but it is believed to follow the story of a crew from a ship named Covenant who believe to have found paradise. The 'paradise' the crew finds turns out to be a 'dark and dangerous' world that is only inhabited by Fassbender. According to Scott, Covenant will bring back all of the aliens we hold dear to our hearts – especially the chest-burster.

Alien: Covenant is scheduled to hit theaters on October 6, 2017.
